Mooney Campaign Comments on Jim Justice’s Entry into U.S. Senate Race in West Virginia
Releases new website detailing Justice’s RINO Republican record
CHARLES TOWN – The campaign for U.S. Senate candidate Alex Mooney released the following statement today regarding Governor Jim Justice’s entry into the race:
“While we welcome Jim Justice’s decision to run for U.S. Senate in West Virginia against Alex Mooney, we’d also like to be the first to tell him what a terrible idea it is. Jim Justice has a liberal record and Republican primary voters will soon see that he is nothing but a Democrat in sheep’s clothing. Supporting over $3 trillion in Biden spending, proposing massive tax hikes, and gun control are just a few examples of Justice’s extreme liberal postures. The D.C. establishment can call Justice a frontrunner all they want. Alex Mooney is the only true conservative in this race and the only candidate that will beat Joe Manchin next November.”
The Mooney campaign also released phonyjustice.com, which outlines the specifics of Jim Justice’s lengthy liberal record. In 2017, Justice proposed the largest tax hike in West Virginia history, owning up to it in his 2017 State of the State Address, saying, “It’s the most painless way I can think of to get out of this mess. If you don’t do this, you’re dead. You’re dead beyond belief.” Justice also supported Joe Manchin’s vote on the Biden spending bill, despite its massive price tag and negative economic impacts. “Joe Manchin, we are very proud of his vote … we hope Joe stands tall,” said Justice.
In addition, he supported the American Rescue plan, a measure that no Republicans voted in favor of and had a price tag of $1.9 trillion dollars. The so-called American Rescue Plan had $750 billion dollars, not tied to infrastructure projects but was filled with pork spending.
Jim Justice opposes the right to work in West Virginia. He specifically threatened to veto an education reform package that would give teachers raises and put more money in the classroom because the bill would have stopped automatically withholding union dues.
Justice’s liberal record is clear. He wants to restrict the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. Justice even supported prolonged lockdowns and mask mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the devastating effects the lockdowns had on the economy and individual liberties. West Virginia was one of the last states in the nation to end the COVID state of emergency just this year.
It’s time for West Virginians to elect a true conservative to the U.S. Senate, and Alex Mooney is the clear choice. Mooney has a proven track record of fighting for lower taxes, Second Amendment rights, and individual freedoms. He opposes the Biden agenda and has been standing up for West Virginia conservatives in Congress for nearly a decade.
